Working for McCarthy Contracting

Our busiest time of year is from around October to March and during this time we do employ a range of seasonal staff to operate our baler fleet and work within the silage company, Central Harvest Ltd. We are generally recruiting for these positions in June and July. We offer a minimum of 40 hours per week of work regardless of the weather conditions. About Driver Licencing

If you have a current UK licence you are able to drive in NZ with this for up to one year. For tractor work we normally require a NZ Class 2 licence and/or wheels/tracks/rollers endorsement. Truck drivers require a truck and trailer licence. For more information on licencing requirements visit the NZTA Driver Licencing website.

For our staff we are able to offer the following facilities:

  • A staff room in the main yard with tea and coffee facilities.
  • Work shirts, overalls and all personal protective clothing, including work boots.
  • A Christmas Function for staff and partners and work breakfasts during the season.
  • Pick up from Christchurch Airport when you arrive in NZ.
  • We can assist with setting up IRD numbers, bank accounts and access to doctors/dentists etc as required.
  • Assist with initial immigration applications and subsequent applications for renewing work visas.
  • We have some accommodation available which provides a furnished room, a cleaner and gardener for a rental fee per room.

Things to see and do while working for us:

Our contracting business is located very close to Christchurch so there is lots to see and do when not at work. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in and around Christchurch, concerts and rugby matches. The Christchurch Adventure park is a great facility for mountain bike enthusiasts along with plenty of tracks to walk/run or ride in and around the Port Hills. Our staff have been able to join local sports clubs and be involved in our community.
